UAE Marks World Humanitarian Day with Renewed Global Aid Vows
On August 19, 2025, the United Arab Emirates marked World Humanitarian Day by reaffirming its leading role in global crisis relief and humanitarian aid. The country once again emphasized its mission to help vulnerable communities across the world, guided by compassion, solidarity, and swift action.
By mid-2024, UAE foreign aid had already reached more than one billion people worldwide, with a total value exceeding AED 368 billion, nearly USD 100 billion. These figures highlight the nation’s transformation into one of the world’s foremost humanitarian hubs.
Lifesaving Support in Gaza
One of the most remarkable examples of the UAE’s humanitarian action has been in Gaza. The country delivered 44 percent of all international aid to the region. Through the “Birds of Goodness” campaign, under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE carried out 73 airdrop missions and distributed nearly 4,000 tonnes of food, medicine, and vital supplies to families caught in the war.
This large-scale relief effort was praised internationally for its effectiveness and speed, reflecting the UAE’s ability to act decisively during critical moments.
Strong Commitment to Sudan
The UAE has also extended significant aid to Sudan. At the High-Level Humanitarian Conference in Addis Ababa, the Emirates pledged USD 200 million in relief assistance. Over the last decade, the country has provided more than USD 3.5 billion to Sudan.
This support has been directed towards emergency food distribution, healthcare, and development projects, offering hope to conflict-affected communities.
Rebuilding Lives in Ukraine
Ukraine has received vital assistance from the UAE as well. The Emirates partnered with the Olena Zelenska Foundation to provide USD 4.5 million for care centers supporting foster families and orphanages. So far, over 1.2 million Ukrainians, including many women and children, have benefitted from this aid.
The UAE has also played an important diplomatic role. By mediating 16 prisoner exchange operations, the country helped secure the release of more than 4,300 detainees, highlighting its ability to combine humanitarian action with peace-building efforts.
Swift Response to Natural Disasters
In addition to conflict zones, the UAE has been quick to respond to natural disasters. Following devastating floods in Chad, it delivered 30,000 food baskets and 20,000 blankets. In Somalia, it sent 700 tonnes of emergency food aid to families facing famine.
When Myanmar was hit by a major earthquake, the UAE dispatched more than 200 tonnes of food, shelter, and medical supplies, followed by an additional 167 tonnes to help 80,000 people. The country also sent a firefighting team to Albania to help contain destructive wildfires.
Leadership Rooted in Compassion
UAE leaders have stressed the values behind these humanitarian missions. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted that the country’s relief work is inspired by solidarity, compassion, and fraternity, values deeply rooted in Emirati society.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, emphasized that humanitarian aid is a national priority. He underlined that it is delivered without political or sectarian interests, with the focus on long-term sustainability and strengthening community resilience.

The UAE’s humanitarian achievements reflect the true spirit of this day, showing that solidarity can transcend borders, cultures, and differences.
