Saudi Arabia Declares Holiday for 95th National Day

Saudi Arabia has officially declared Tuesday, 23 September 2025 a public holiday for both government and private sectors to mark its 95th National Day.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development confirmed that employees, students, and staff across public, private, and non-profit sectors will have the day off. Normal working and school activities will resume on Wednesday, 24 September. Officials also clarified that the holiday is for one day only, with no extension.

The Meaning of National Day

National Day in Saudi Arabia is observed every year on 23 September. It commemorates the unification of the Kingdom under King Abdulaziz in 1932, when the regions of Hejaz and Nejd were joined into what is now modern Saudi Arabia.

Although the event of unification happened in 1932, National Day only became a public holiday in 2005, following an official royal decree. Since then, it has grown into one of the most celebrated national events in the country.

This Year’s Theme and Celebrations

The official theme for this year is “Our Pride is in Our Nature.” The slogan reflects the connection between the Saudi people and their natural heritage, emphasizing values such as authenticity, generosity, and resilience.

For the 95th anniversary, a visual identity has also been introduced. It includes six unique symbols that highlight national character, cultural legacy, and the pride Saudis hold in their traditions. These symbols are being used across media campaigns, decorations, and cultural events to spread the spirit of the celebration.

Across the country, major cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam will see decorations of flags, lights, and festive displays. Public squares and shopping malls are expected to host cultural shows, traditional dances, and concerts. Fireworks are also anticipated to light up the night sky in several cities, drawing large crowds of families and visitors.

What Is Different in the 95th Celebration

This year’s theme stands out by putting a strong focus on nature as a central part of Saudi identity. It highlights the importance of landscapes, traditions, and environment in shaping the Kingdom’s future.

The new visual identity with six symbols adds depth to the celebration by presenting values of generosity, strength, ambition, and authenticity in creative ways.

Another unique point this year is the early clarification from authorities that the holiday will not be extended beyond one day. This avoids confusion that often arises when public holidays fall close to weekends.

What People Can Expect

With schools and workplaces closed for the day, streets are expected to be filled with families and young people celebrating together. Many will wear green and white outfits, the colors of the Saudi flag, while cars and buildings will be decorated with national symbols.

In the highland regions such as Asir and Taif, weather may bring clouds and light rain in the evenings, but that has rarely dampened the festive spirit. In fact, many people see such conditions as adding a refreshing touch to the outdoor celebrations.

Hotels and restaurants across the country are also preparing special packages, menus, and entertainment programs to attract visitors during the holiday. Shopping centers are expected to offer discounts and themed activities for families.

Why This Day Matters

For Saudis, National Day is not only about remembering history but also about expressing unity and pride. At 95 years since unification, the occasion highlights both tradition and progress. It serves as a reminder of the Kingdom’s journey from its early struggles to becoming a key player in global politics, culture, and economy.

The theme “Our Pride is in Our Nature” connects the country’s identity with its landscapes and traditions while also aligning with global conversations about sustainability and the environment.
