Nour Khoury: From Lebanon’s Playgrounds to Dubai Classrooms

Early Passion for Sports Shaped Her Future

For many children, playing football with friends is simply a fun activity after school. But for Nour Khoury, those childhood moments became the foundation of her future career.

Growing up in Lebanon, Nour spent much of her time playing football with her friends in the neighborhood. Most of the players were boys, but that never stopped her from joining the game. In fact, she often competed strongly and sometimes even won against them.

These early experiences taught her an important lesson. Being a girl did not mean she could not be strong, competitive, or capable in sports. Instead, the challenge motivated her to push herself further and build confidence.

Those childhood matches were more than just games. They helped Nour realize that sports could become an important part of her life. Over time, she began to imagine a future where she could turn that passion into a profession.

Eventually, she discovered the perfect path: becoming a physical education teacher, a career that would allow her to combine sports with education and inspire young people.

A Family That Valued Education

While sports fueled Nour’s passion, education had always been an important part of her life.

Her family played a strong role in shaping her outlook on learning and teaching. Her aunt worked as a teacher and later became a school director, serving as a major role model during Nour’s childhood. Seeing her aunt’s dedication to education showed her how teachers can influence and guide young minds.

Her mother also worked as a teacher. In fact, her mother was teaching while she was pregnant with Nour, meaning education was always present in her life from the very beginning.

A surprising and emotional moment came when Nour finally shared her career plans with her mother. When she told her that she wanted to become a physical education teacher, her mother was shocked—but happy.

Her mother revealed that becoming a PE teacher had once been her own dream, but she had never spoken about it before.

For Nour, this felt like a meaningful connection between generations. It strengthened her belief that she had chosen the right path.

Starting Her Career at Just 16

Nour Khoury did not wait until adulthood to begin her professional journey.

At the age of 16, she started working as a coach in a school summer camp in Lebanon. The job allowed her to work closely with children while staying connected to sports.

Her dedication and enthusiasm quickly stood out. Through hard work and commitment, she was eventually given the opportunity to become a summer camp manager, even though she was still very young.

The role came with significant responsibility. She had to manage activities, supervise children, and ensure that the camp environment remained safe and enjoyable.

However, her young age sometimes created doubts among parents. Some found it difficult to trust someone so young with such responsibility.

Instead of letting this discourage her, Nour worked even harder. She demonstrated professionalism, patience, and responsibility in every task she handled.

Gradually, parents and colleagues began to trust her abilities. This experience taught her a powerful lesson: determination and consistent effort can overcome skepticism.

A Life-Changing Opportunity After the Beirut Port Explosion

Nour’s life took an unexpected turn after the Beirut Port Explosion in 2020, one of the most devastating events in Lebanon’s recent history.

The explosion caused widespread destruction and deeply affected many people across the country.

During this difficult period, Nour received an opportunity that would change her life. She was offered a position at an international playground in Dubai.

The decision to move was not easy. Leaving her home country during such a challenging time meant stepping into uncertainty. She would also be moving alone, far from her family and friends.

At the same time, the world was experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, which made international travel and relocation even more complicated.

Despite these obstacles, Nour chose to accept the opportunity. She believed it would help her grow personally and professionally.

Balancing Work and University in a New Country

Moving to Dubai marked the beginning of a new chapter in Nour’s life.

While working at the playground, she continued completing her university studies online, working hard to earn her bachelor’s degree.

Balancing work and studies required strong discipline and time management. Living alone in a new country also meant adapting to a completely different lifestyle.

There were moments of uncertainty and emotional challenges, as adjusting to a new environment without family support can be difficult.

However, those experiences also helped her grow stronger. Living independently taught her resilience, responsibility, and confidence.

Each challenge became an opportunity to learn and grow.

Achieving Her Dream of Becoming a PE Teacher

After spending about a year in Dubai, Nour decided to take a step toward achieving her ultimate dream.

She applied for a position as a physical education teacher, the career she had envisioned since childhood.

Her hard work and determination paid off when she successfully secured a teaching position at a school in Dubai.

For Nour, this was a moment of great pride. The dream that began on playground football fields had finally become reality.

Alongside her teaching role, she also earned a lifeguard certification, which strengthened her qualifications in sports safety and training.

Today, she continues to teach physical education, helping students stay active, healthy, and confident.

Teaching More Than Just Sports

For Nour Khoury, physical education is not only about sports skills or competition.

She believes sports play a major role in shaping students’ personalities and life skills. Activities such as football, teamwork exercises, and physical training can help students develop discipline, cooperation, and self-confidence.

Research in physical education supports this belief, showing that regular physical activity improves both physical health and emotional well-being among students.

In her classes, Nour focuses on creating a supportive and motivating environment. She encourages students to try their best, support their teammates, and believe in their abilities.

She understands that every student is different. Some may naturally enjoy sports, while others may need encouragement to participate.

By supporting each student individually, she hopes to help them build confidence and discover their strengths.

Lessons Learned Through Determination

One of the most valuable lessons Nour has learned throughout her journey is the importance of confidence and persistence.

Starting to work at a young age meant she often had to prove herself in professional environments.

Some people doubted her because of her age or limited experience. However, she refused to let those doubts define her.

Instead, she focused on improving her skills, staying professional, and demonstrating responsibility.

Over time, her dedication changed people’s perceptions. Those who once doubted her abilities began to recognize her commitment and talent.

This lesson continues to guide her today, especially in the way she motivates her students.

She reminds them that improvement comes with effort, patience, and determination.

A Future Dream to Support Youth in Lebanon

Although Nour has built a successful career in Dubai, her long-term vision extends beyond her current job.

One of her biggest dreams is to return to Lebanon and open a small sports club for children and young people.

Through this club, she hopes to create a space where young people can enjoy sports, build confidence, and develop healthy habits.

Lebanon has faced many challenges in recent years, and Nour believes sports can help bring positivity and opportunities to communities.

For her, opening a sports club would not only fulfill a personal dream but also allow her to give back to her home country.

The Legacy She Wants to Leave

As a teacher, Nour Khoury hopes to leave a lasting and positive impact on her students.

Her goal is not simply to teach sports techniques but to help students develop self-belief and resilience.

She wants them to understand that sports are not just about winning games. They are also about teamwork, discipline, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

If even a few students remember her as a teacher who supported them, believed in them, and inspired them to enjoy sports, she will consider that her greatest achievement.

Advice to Her Younger Self

Reflecting on her journey, Nour believes every challenge she faced helped shape her into the person she is today.

If she could speak to her younger self, she would offer simple advice: trust the journey and believe in yourself.

Starting a career at a young age can bring doubts and challenges, but perseverance eventually leads to growth and opportunity.

She would also remind herself not to fear change. Moving to another country and building an independent life may seem difficult at first, but those experiences create strength and confidence.

Today, Nour Khoury’s story—from a determined young girl playing football in Lebanon to a passionate PE teacher in Dubai—stands as a powerful example of how dedication, courage, and passion can turn dreams into reality.
